Puerto Morelos…little fishing village south of Cancun

In March 2009 I spent 2 weeks in the little fishing town of Puerto Morelos where we rented a house.  This quaint town is located between Cancun and Playa del Carmen.  Below are a few photos of the area.

One of the many great highlights from our trip was visiting the Crococun Zoo where we got to feed, pet &/or hold monkeys, crocodiles, snakes, deer among other animals.  It was a great afternoon having a private tour of the zoo.

The Verde Cenote was also something I’d highly recommend.  You can spend the whole day there if you like – bring in some snacks & drinks and swim in the cenote, drop from the zip line and enjoy the great spot.  It can get crowded when tours come in but they aren’t there long so just wait it out.

The town of Puerto Morelos has some excellent restaurants with great prices and some of the best food I’ve ever had in Mexico.  Our most favorite was Hola Asia right in the town square with a view of the beach.

If you are heading down the coast past Playa del Carmen a visit to the town of Akumal to do some snorkeling with the turtles is something not to be missed.  If it’s windy, head over to Yal Ku Lagoon (10 min. from Akumal beach) and snorkel in the lagoon in calm waters – fabulous!
